New Outdoor Pickleball Courts at Sharky’s Added in Expansion

New Outdoor Pickleball Courts at Sharky: Fort Scott residents have likely noticed the bustling construction site on the south side of Sharky’s Pub and Grub, located at 16 N. National Avenue. This significant project, spearheaded by Tina and David Lipe, is set to enhance the restaurant’s offerings.

Ambitious Plans for Outdoor Space

Since its inception in June 2011, Sharky’s has been a staple in the community, continuously evolving to meet its patrons’ needs. According to Dave Lipe, “Our facility has everything: a cool designed building, a banquet facility…and we always wanted an outdoor facility.” The ongoing expansion, which began in June 2024, aims to introduce a large outdoor patio to the restaurant.

This new addition, expected to open in September 2024, will feature a bar, pickleball court, TVs, gas firepits, and bathrooms.

“It will be a place for people to enjoy outdoor dining, a little live music, and pickleball. Hopefully people will come and enjoy it.” – (Lipe)

Local Businesses Contribute to the Project

The 50-foot by 100-foot patio, enclosed by a fence and located south of the restaurant, will offer entry directly from the restaurant. To bring this vision to life, the Lipes have engaged several local Fort Scott businesses including PJW Consulting and Ron Hurd Construction.

Additional contributors include McKenney Masonry, Geiger Plumbing, Jeff Allen Electric, Bill Lalman Fencing, Miller Brothers Welding, and Peerless Products, Inc., which crafted the doors connecting the restaurant to the patio.

Restaurant and Banquet Facilities

Sharky’s, which employs 32 staff members, primarily part-time, is set to expand its team in anticipation of the patio’s opening. The restaurant’s banquet facility, situated on the third floor of the historic building, caters to various events such as birthday parties, wedding receptions, and meetings. During Thanksgiving weekend, the establishment will also debut a Christmas-themed pop-up bar named “Sharkey’s North Pole,” a popular seasonal attraction.

Community and Catering Services

In addition to its regular offerings, Sharky’s provides catering services to the local community. For reservations of the banquet room or catering inquiries, contact Lipe at 816.392.2825. The restaurant operates from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Monday through Thursday, extends hours until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and closes at 7 p.m. on Sundays, with some exceptions for sporting events. The Lipes also manage Sharky’s locations in Iola, KS, and Nevada, MO, making it a truly family-operated business with two of their four children involved in the enterprise.
