Adult Pickleball Camp Puts a Spin on Summer Fun

Adult Pickleball Camp: Just as kids are packing away their camp memories for another year, it’s time for the grown-ups to get their turn. And no, this isn’t some nostalgic nod to reliving the glory days of childhood—this is about pickleball, the sport that’s quietly become everyone’s new obsession. The YMCA of the North is offering a pickleball camp for adults, and it’s got all the trappings of a classic summer camp experience, minus the bug juice and arts and crafts.

Set against the scenic backdrop of Camp St. Croix in Hudson, Wisconsin, from September 3–5, this event offers more than just a series of pickleball clinics. It’s a comprehensive sleepaway experience that fully immerses participants in the game. Though bunk beds are available for those who choose to stay overnight, there’s also an option to commute daily for those who prefer to return home each evening. Regardless of the choice, once attendees arrive, the focus is entirely on enjoying and improving their pickleball skills.

Coaches David Dutrieuille and Dwight Krueger of Pickleball Pioneers will be there to take the players through the paces, whether they are just getting started or already playing at a competitive level. The first two days are all about honing their skills, and then on the final day, they will be able to test everything they’ve learned in a tournament that promises to bring out their competitive side.

But this isn’t just a pickleball boot camp. The YMCA is making sure campers get the full retreat experience. Think yoga, tai chi, and all the classic camp activities—yes, there’s even music around the campfire. When it comes to food, the dining hall is stocked with produce from the Farm at Camp St. Croix, which does double duty by supplying more than 7,000 pounds of fresh vegetables to local food support organizations annually.

The whole experience will set the players back $200, with extra costs for those who want to bunk in the cabins. It’s a small price to pay for a weekend where they can immerse themselves in the sport they love, surrounded by nature and like-minded enthusiasts. It’s a reminder that while the kids are back in school, there’s still a little bit of summer left for the rest of them.
