Pickleball Court Debuts in Caledonia: Early Success and Setbacks

Pickleball Court Debuts in Caledonia: Mayor DeWayne (Tank) Schroeder opened the Caledonia City Council meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, August 26, in the city hall council chambers. Councilmembers Bob Klug, Amanda Ninneman, David Fitzpatrick, and Ryan Stenzel joined him for the session, which began with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Pickleball Court Unveiling

Public Works/Zoning Director Casey Klug reported that the new pickleball court, which had been under development for over two years, officially opened on August 21. The court, freshly painted and striped, has quickly become a popular spot for locals.

However, Klug noted with concern that the court has already been subjected to vandalism, including unsightly black skid marks. To address this issue, city staff are working on implementing better signage and other preventive measures to safeguard the court.

Klug also highlighted ongoing efforts by his department, including routine maintenance tasks such as tree trimming, asphalt patching, and hydrant painting. Despite these efforts, he acknowledged that the work at the wastewater treatment plant has been slower than expected.

Community Feedback on Pickleball

Resident Kathryn Lamb expressed her gratitude to City Clerk/Administrator Jake Dickson and Councilmember Fitzpatrick for organizing an entrepreneur event, appreciating the professionalism and positive impact despite a modest turnout. Her feedback underscored the community’s engagement with city-led initiatives, including the new pickleball court.

Ongoing and Future Improvements

The council’s focus on enhancing recreational facilities, such as the pickleball court, aligns with broader efforts to improve community services. As the city deals with the immediate challenges of vandalism, there is a clear commitment to ensuring that the new court remains a valuable asset for residents.

Next Steps

The next city council meeting, where further discussions on ongoing projects and community issues will continue, is scheduled for Monday, September 9, at 6 p.m. The meeting was adjourned at 6:33 p.m.
