Cody Park’s New Pickleball Courts: The development of ten new pickleball courts and tennis courts at Cody Park in North Platte is progressing swiftly, with an expected completion by the end of this year. This addition aims to address the current shortage of pickleball facilities in the region and provide much-needed space for enthusiasts.
Construction Milestones
Parks and Recreation Director Lyle Minshull commended the efficiency of the construction team. “The contractor came in here and they had five pours in five days. It’s kind of amazing how they did that.” Minshull said. He detailed the advanced techniques used, including a large pumper truck for concrete and a leveling machine, which contributed to the precise and timely progress of the courts.
Safety Measures
Minshull showed the importance of safety around the construction area. “This project is called post-tension concrete. You can see the cables sticking out of the side of the concrete, they take a big pump and pull the cables as tight as they can like a guitar string.” he explained. Due to the nature of the concrete work and the potential for hazards, residents are advised to steer clear of the construction site.
Future Plans
The upcoming phases involve installing electrical systems and setting up pole foundations for lighting.
“We’re going to go in and start the electrical, get all the electrical pipes in the ground and start putting pole foundations in for the light poles.” – (Minshull)
The installation of sidewalks between the courts is slated for completion in the next two to three weeks. If construction maintains its current pace, the new pickleball courts should be ready by the end of October, just in time for fall play.
