Top Pickleball Venues in the Upstate: Pickleball has become one of the fastest-growing sports in the U.S., and the Upstate region is no exception. With a steady influx of new courts and tournaments, players are spoiled for choice. For those looking to find the best places to play in the region, the following locations stand out.

For those unfamiliar with pickleball, a quick review of the rules might be helpful before diving into local tournaments. Here’s a guide to some of the best public courts in the Upstate, where players can enjoy free access and frequent pickup games.

Duncan Park, Spartanburg: A Popular Local Venue

Located at 150 W. Park Drive, Duncan Park features four free courts shared by pickleball and tennis. Though initially designed for both sports, pickleball has become increasingly dominant, especially during peak afternoon and evening hours. Just a short 10-minute drive from downtown Spartanburg, Duncan Park offers one of the most accessible spots for pickleball in the city.

The courts are open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., with extended play during summer evenings, thanks to overhead floodlights. It is common to see players on the courts well into the evening.

Gower Park, Greenville: A Newly Revamped Facility

Gower Park, situated at 24 Evelyn Ave., recently underwent a $1.4 million renovation, enhancing its appeal to pickleball enthusiasts. Located just over 10 minutes from downtown Greenville, the park now boasts around 10 dedicated pickleball courts.

Although the courts are free to the public, peak times, particularly on weekend mornings, may require players to wait for an available court. Open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., Gower Park provides ample opportunities for players to enjoy the sport.

Timmons Park, Greenville: A Hub for Pickleball

Timmons Park, located at 121 Oxford St. in Greenville, is another popular destination for pickleball players. Following a $425,000 renovation in 2021, the park now features eight lighted courts.

Less than 10 minutes from downtown Greenville, the park is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and is known for being one of the busiest spots for pickleball in the Upstate. In addition to pickleball courts, the park also offers a playground and a baseball field.

Va-Du-Mar McMillan Park, Boiling Springs: An Expansive Option

Va-Du-Mar McMillan Park, located at 591 McMillin Blvd. in Boiling Springs, offers over 10 pickleball courts, some converted from tennis courts and others built specifically for pickleball. The park also features soccer fields and a playground. Open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., it is a popular destination for the growing Boiling Springs community.

Pickup games are a common sight at the park, which is managed by the county. Crystal Hoover and Austin Pacatang, who were spotted playing at the park, noted the benefits of the facility.
