Pickleball Courts Debut in Calera: Community Flocks to New Facility

Pickleball Courts Debut in Calera: After months of anticipation, the residents of Calera finally have access to new pickleball courts at the Rolling Hills Conference Center and RV Park. Officially opened to the public, these three courts are available for use from sunrise to sundown daily, offering a fresh recreational option for locals.

Growing Popularity Since Day One

Calera’s Director of Parks and Recreation, Seth Gandy, highlighted the immediate success of the courts since their opening on August 21. “The pickleball courts are finished and we’re extremely excited about it,” Gandy shared. “There’s already been a ton of people playing on it. It’s something new to Calera. Something we haven’t had before.”

The project was funded with the help of a grant from the Shelby County Commission’s Parks and Recreation Program, initially announced in December 2023. This support was crucial in bringing the courts to life, and Gandy made sure to recognize their partnership.

We really can’t thank Shelby County enough for their partnership in this,” he said. “We couldn’t have done it without their help.

Future Expansion in the Works

With the initial success of the courts, Gandy revealed plans for further development. The city of Calera is looking to construct additional pickleball courts at the Eagle Sports Complex, signaling a long-term commitment to expanding pickleball facilities for the community.

In the meantime, residents are encouraged to bring their own pickleball gear to Rolling Hills during its operating hours to take advantage of the new courts.

Rolling Hills: More Than Just Pickleball

Beyond the newly opened courts, the Rolling Hills Conference Center and RV Park offers a variety of amenities spread over 80 acres. Visitors can enjoy a swimming pool, lake, conference center, family life center, and youth building, making it a versatile destination for recreation and relaxation.

For those looking to explore the pickleball courts or learn more about Rolling Hills, the facilities are located at 521 County Road 304, Calera, AL. Additional information can be found on the City of Calera’s official website.
