North Country Pickleball Club’s Fundraiser Hits $20K Mark

North Country Pickleball Club’s Fundraiser: The North Country Pickleball Club’s recent fall festival was a resounding success, raising approximately $20,000 for five local fire departments. The funds will be allocated to the Potsdam, West Potsdam, West Stockholm, Hannawa Falls, and Norwood Volunteer fire departments, with all proceeds dedicated to purchasing new equipment and providing training.

Event Highlights and Community Involvement

The festival, held at Sandstoner Park Arena on September 7, featured a diverse lineup of activities including a 9/11 memorial ceremony, a pickleball tournament, a 5K run, a kickball contest, and raffle baskets. The memorial ceremony, a poignant highlight, included a fireman’s prayer, a moment of silence, a bell tolling, and a bugle performance by Mary Russell, with bagpipe music by Ray Percer marking the event’s beginning and end.

Tribute to Local Firefighters

Teresa Fisher, an organizer of the event, emphasized the importance of supporting local firefighters.

“North Country Pickleball Club chose this year’s September tournament to donate to the fire departments because they are so deserving of help and support. They do a lot for our communities, and it was our way to show respect and bring recognition to their group for everything that they do.” – (Fisher)

She also noted the absence of the Potsdam Fire Department due to an accident response, highlighting the often-overlooked sacrifices made by these volunteers.

Community Support and Ongoing Donations

The festival also saw a generous contribution from the Potsdam Elks Club, which hosted a chicken and biscuit dinner and donated $1,000 to the fundraiser. Several local businesses and individuals contributed to the event, and donations are still being accepted. Checks can be mailed to North Country Pickleball, 729 Pleasant Valley Rd., Potsdam, NY 13676.
