Annandale’s New Pickleball Center to Open in 2025: Construction Begins

Annandale’s New Pickleball Center to Open in 2025: Construction has officially begun on the Down the Line indoor pickleball center, which will be located in the long-vacant Kid’s Choice building at 4317 Ravensworth Road, Annandale. Developer Jenni Bae, who is spearheading the project, expects the facility to open its doors in 2025. The center will feature 18 full-size pickleball courts, seven state-of-the-art golf simulators, and a sports bar, offering a comprehensive recreational experience for visitors.

Vision for Social Engagement

Bae envisions Down the Line as more than just a sports facility; she plans for it to serve as a vibrant social gathering space. The center will include a balcony for spectators, expert pickleball coaching, leagues, and amateur and professional tournaments. Bae, an avid tennis player who discovered pickleball during the pandemic, describes the sport as fun, social, and accessible to all age groups.

Project’s Evolution and Local Impact

The Kid’s Choice property was initially purchased by Bae’s family in 2015 with plans to convert it into an adult day center and banquet hall. Despite receiving approval from the Board of Supervisors in 2018, those plans never materialized.

“Once we saw how popular pickleball is, our family decided to pivot. The building was designed as a sports facility, so that made more sense.” – (Bae)

Existing Fairfax Facility

While working on the Annandale project, the City of Fairfax requested Bae to create a temporary pickleball facility in a vacant CVS set for redevelopment. The resulting Down the Line center at 10390 Willard Way in Fairfax opened earlier this year. It features three full-size courts, a half-size court, a practice court, live scoreboards, a players’ lounge, and a mini-pro shop.

The Fairfax facility offers individual memberships at $45 per month and Silver Paddle memberships for those aged 60 and above at $20 per month. Membership benefits include half-price rates on open play sessions, private court reservations, and priority access to programs and events.
