Lock Haven’s Pickleball Tournament Sparks Community Engagement

Lock Haven’s Pickleball Tournament: The City of Lock Haven, in partnership with the Lock Haven Area Pickleball group, hosted an afternoon of fun and community engagement at Hanna Park on Sunday, Sept. 8. The event featured a 16-team pickleball tournament while also gathering input from residents about future upgrades to the park. Throughout the tournament, participants and attendees were encouraged to share their ideas for improving the park, connect with neighbors, and support the local pickleball group.

Tournament Results and Community Input

The tournament showcased competitive play, and Roberts announced the top finishers. First-place honors went to Gene Tran and Tim Bennett, while Colt Smith and Rich Greene secured Second Place. Brennan Haines and Joe Marchese rounded out the podium in Third Place.

Beyond the matches, the event was a platform for the community to provide valuable feedback on the future of Hanna Park. Roberts highlighted the importance of this input, saying,

“The feedback from the event and responses from the Hanna Park survey will be used to develop a preliminary site plan and project budget as the City of Lock Haven works to gather funding for the project.” – (Roberts)

Funding and Development Plans

The City is actively seeking financial support for the upgrades, with plans to apply for grants from the Community Development Block Grant program and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. These efforts are part of a broader initiative to enhance Lock Haven’s parks, with Hanna Park being the latest in line for improvements.

“Hanna Park is one of the last active parks to see upgrades,” Roberts explained. She also noted that other parks have significantly improved in recent years, including Hoberman, Piper-Harmon, and Hammermill.

Appreciation for the Community and Organizers

City officials expressed their gratitude to the community and the Lock Haven Area Pickleball group for their involvement. Thanks to Ron Haffley, Jeannine and Wade Shadey, and Paul Ballat for their partnership in organizing the event.
