New Pickleball Courts at Lake Junaluska: The Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center is set to enhance its recreational offerings with the addition of 10 new pickleball courts. This development, funded by a generous $290,000 grant from Haywood County, aims to broaden the center’s appeal and provide more opportunities for pickleball enthusiasts.

Completion Timeline and Regional Impact

Weather permitting, the new courts are expected to be completed by Thanksgiving. The expansion is poised to attract regional tournaments and elevate the center’s status within the Southeast pickleball community.

Ken Howle, Executive Director of Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center, anticipates a strong response from the pickleball community. “We do believe we will have some tournaments that will most likely want to take place here – both local and maybe even regional tournaments,” Howle said. “We are in the center of Haywood County – such just a perfect location for a pickleball tournament where we could attract people from around the region to come and enjoy Haywood County and the beautiful amenities here.

Public Access and Future Prospects

Once completed, the courts will be open to the public and available during daylight hours, offering a new venue for both casual play and competitive events. This addition is set to enhance Lake Junaluska’s reputation as a prime destination for recreational activities in the region.
