New Pickleball Courts in Tonawanda to Revitalize Town

New Pickleball Courts in Tonawanda: The Town of Tonawanda is set to introduce new pickleball courts at the front lawn of the Aquatic & Fitness Center, thanks to a generous $40,000 grant from the Rotary Club of Kenmore and the Kenmore Rotary Foundation. The new courts will be located on Sheridan Drive, near Delaware Road, providing an exciting addition to the community’s recreational offerings.

Town Vision: A New Gathering Space

We are creating a town square setting in this space,” said Town Councilman Carl Szarek, who also chairs the town’s Youth, Parks & Recreation (YPR) Committee. The development is part of a broader initiative to enhance community spaces. Crews from the Town’s Department of Youth, Parks & Recreation have already started installing two regulation-size pickleball courts, which are expected to be ready for play by next spring.

Rotary Club’s 100th Anniversary Gift

The project is part of the Rotary Club of Kenmore’s celebration of its 100 years of service to the Ken-Ton Community. “We think a lot of town residents are going to really enjoy the new courts,” said Kenmore Rotary Foundation Board Member Mike Hettler. The courts will provide a space for both recreational players and enthusiasts of the growing sport of pickleball.

Rotary Leadership’s Pride in the Project

Rotary President Cathy Piciulo expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative. “I am proud and excited that Rotary is funding this project,” Piciulo said. The installation is expected to significantly benefit the community, aligning with Rotary’s mission to support local development.

Future Plans: Arts Stage Installation

In addition to the pickleball courts, the space will also feature a performing arts stage, scheduled for installation in 2025. The project aims to create a multi-functional community area, blending recreational and cultural experiences for residents.
