Westside Pickleball League Hosts Second Annual Rally on the Rock Tournament

Westside Pickleball League: Pickleball is no stranger to the Nino Cantu Southwest Athletic Complex courts, but this past Saturday, the action was taken up a notch. The Westside Pickleball League (WPL) held its second annual Rally on the Rock tournament, a significant event that brought together around 160 players, including participants from Canada.

Rosina Geary and Amy Greger from the WPL served as tournament directors, orchestrating the event with precision and ensuring smooth operations throughout the day.

The tournament wasn’t just about competition; it was also about community and support for student athletics. The WPL has a history of raising funds for student sports programs, as highlighted during its formation a year and a half ago. This year, the Rally on the Rock tournament benefited the Chief Sealth International High School Cross Country team. Several students from the team contributed by acting as runners during the event, transporting scoresheets and assisting with various tasks.

We were on-site to witness some of the medal presentations, capturing the moment as Max Brockman, Spencer Klein, Eric Kim, James Lee, Zachary Wagnild, and Shane Silkey received their accolades. These moments encapsulated the spirit of the tournament, combining competitive excellence with community support.

Amy Greger shared some impressive statistics from the tournament’s conclusion: the event featured 182 players, with a demographic breakdown of 58 percent men and 42 percent women. Participants ranged in age from their 20s to their 80s, with the largest group in their 30s, showcasing the diverse appeal of pickleball.
