1st Annual Bob Berkey Memorial Pickleball Tournament Starts in Weatherford’s Courts with Thrilling Action

Weatherford, Texas, is gearing up to host the 1st Annual Bob Berkey Memorial Pickleball Tournament this weekend at Love Street Park, in what promises to be a competitive and community-driven event. The pickleball tournament is open to all ages and skill levels, including a special category for players 50 and over.

With a two-day schedule running from September 14 to September 15, the event will showcase Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles competitions. Tournament play kicks off on Saturday with men’s and women’s doubles matches, while mixed doubles action will take place on Sunday.

Details and Registration

Participants can register for $60, which includes entry into one event, with the option to join additional events for $10 each. Members of the Parker County Pickleball Association (PCPA) can receive a discounted entry fee of $50 by registering through the association. T-shirts are also available for an additional $10. All proceeds from the tournament will benefit 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations.

The event will feature a round-robin format, ensuring teams get plenty of action with four guaranteed games per event. The breakdown for potential brackets includes pools of up to eight teams, with top teams advancing to medal rounds. Medal matches will be played best two out of three, to 11 points, win by two.

A Tribute to Bob Berkey

The tournament honors the late Bob Berkey, a beloved figure in the Weatherford community. His passion for pickleball and commitment to bringing people together through the sport continues to resonate, with the event celebrating his legacy by encouraging friendly competition and community involvement.

Venue and Amenities

The tournament will take place at Love Street Park, located at 309 Love St, Weatherford, Texas. The venue features 10 outdoor covered courts with permanent nets and pickleball hardcourt surfaces. Players will compete using the Diadem Official Neon ball.

While the tournament will be played outdoors, it’s important to note that no refunds will be issued for weather-related cancellations. In the case of weather delays, the tournament will do its best to reschedule matches. Players can receive a refund up to two weeks before registration closes, subject to a $5 processing fee per event.

Logistics and Lodging

For those traveling to the event, accommodations are available six miles from the venue at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Weatherford. Additional parking for the event will be provided at the nearby Mount Pleasant School parking lot.
