Chandler Set to Triple Pickleball Courts : On September 12, the Chandler City Council took a decisive step in meeting the growing demand for pickleball by approving a significant construction agreement change order for the new Tumbleweed Park Pickleball Facility. This move awards Hunter Contracting Co. the project, signaling a major enhancement in the city’s recreational infrastructure.

Project Overview

Initially approved in October 2023, the Tumbleweed Park Pickleball Facility will rise at the southeast corner of Germann Road and Pioneer Parkway. This development will nearly triple the number of outdoor pickleball courts available to Chandler residents, significantly expanding local amenities to cater to the sport’s surging popularity.

John Sefton, Chandler’s Community Services Director, underscored the importance of this project, noting, “Pickleball’s popularity has grown rapidly in our community. It’s essential to expand our recreation programs and facilities to meet the demand among our residents. This new facility will offer affordable, accessible opportunities for residents of all ages and abilities.

Construction and Budget

Hunter Contracting Co. will construct 18 outdoor pickleball courts, complete with restrooms, practice areas, equipment storage, drinking fountains, and ample parking. Additionally, the facility will feature three new tennis courts and upgraded LED lighting at the Chandler Tennis Center. The total change order for this work is capped at $8,415,866.94. Furthermore, Dibble CM, LLC has been awarded a professional services agreement for construction management, with a budget limit of $482,135.

Timeline and Completion

Construction for the Tumbleweed Park Pickleball Facility began in early September 2024, with work slated to start in October 2024. The project is expected to be completed by fall 2025, promising to offer an expanded and improved recreational experience for Chandler’s pickleball enthusiasts.
