Evansville’s End of Year Pickleball Tournament: As the year comes to a close, the Evansville Tennis Center (ETC) is set to host its Third Annual End of Year Pickleball Tournament. Taking place on December 28-29, 2024, the event will bring together players from across the region, offering a competitive yet community-oriented atmosphere. With registration closing on December 26, the tournament serves as both a fundraiser for the tennis center and a celebration of pickleball’s rising popularity.
This year’s tournament will feature a round-robin format, with divisions based on age and skill. Players aged 19-49 and 50+ will be split into three skill levels: 3.0 and under, 3.5-4.0, and 4.5+, ensuring a balanced competition. “We may need to combine divisions based on registration,” organizers noted, but with a minimum of four games guaranteed for each participant, there will be plenty of action on the courts.
The schedule kicks off on Saturday, December 28, with men’s doubles starting at 9:00 AM, followed by women’s doubles at 2:00 PM. Sunday, December 29, will feature mixed doubles, with the 19-49 division at 9:00 AM and the 50+ division at 2:00 PM. All matches will be held on the hardcourt surfaces inside ETC’s indoor facility, providing a controlled environment for play. Participants will compete using Onix Dura Fast pickleballs and portable nets across 10 courts.
As a fundraiser, the tournament carries a $40 entry fee, with an additional $5 per event entered. USSP members can enjoy a $10 discount. While there are no refunds available, players are encouraged to ensure their partners are registered by the firm December 26 deadline.
Players and spectators alike are asked to follow strict court etiquette, with no food or drink (other than water) allowed on the courts. Spectators are restricted to the mezzanine area, and outside chairs or coolers are prohibited from the playing surface. ETC’s focus is not only on fostering great competition but also on maintaining the facility’s pristine condition for future events.
Proceeds from the tournament will support ETC’s ongoing efforts to grow pickleball within the community. With medals awarded to top finishers in each age and skill division, and the chance to close out the year with a competitive edge, the End of Year Smash promises to be another memorable event for both players and fans.
Whether you’re a seasoned 4.5+ competitor or just looking to improve your game in the 3.0 division, the ETC End of Year Smash offers an inclusive environment to test your skills. For the Evansville pickleball community, it’s a perfect way to cap off 2024.
