The renovation of the two southern tennis courts is being handled by Australian Courtworks, a company specializing in sports facility upgrades.
This project includes redoing the posts, painting, striping, and adding new separation fencing. Notably, windscreens are also being installed to mitigate distractions and wind interference, which are vital for the lightweight pickleballs that players use.

This initiative arose from community meetings held over the past year and a half, generating interest in various improvements. The planned enhancements include a walking trail, playground, FitLot fitness equipment, and more. A major aspect of the redesign will involve the removal of the existing clubhouse, making space for a new vendor area, and an outdoor event space. “The existing one has served its purpose,” Hays noted, advocating for a modern upgrade that meets the needs of today’s park users.
Community Safety Measures
In light of recent events, the foundation has prioritized safety by hiring off-duty law enforcement to patrol the park daily. Since June, they have spent about $2,500 per week to secure the presence of deputies from the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department. These officers work in pairs to provide security throughout the park, particularly during busy hours. The Jackson Police Department also contributes by patrolling the area, ensuring a comprehensive approach to safety.
To further enhance security, the foundation is collaborating with USTA Mississippi to install six to ten security cameras throughout the park. This initiative reflects their commitment to creating a safe environment for all visitors, allowing families and individuals to enjoy the park’s amenities with peace of mind.
