Salisbury Park to Get New Pickleball Courts and Modern Lighting

Salisbury Park to Get New Pickleball Courts: In a recent meeting of the Salisbury Township supervisors, the board laid out tentative plans to enhance community recreation facilities. Notably absent was Board Chair Gordon Hoover.

Lighting Upgrades for Softball Fields

The supervisors reviewed a request to replace 38 aging lighting fixtures at two softball fields within the Salisbury Township Community Park, located at 750 White Horse Road, Gap. According to Township Manager Kirsten Peachey, these fixtures have served for over 30 years and require modernization.

The proposed upgrade to LED lights and drivers is estimated to cost $93,000 and is expected to reduce electricity costs by “half,” making operations more sustainable for the athletic fields.

Conversion to Pickleball Courts

In a push to promote the growing sport of pickleball, the board is considering a proposal to transform the existing concrete hockey rink into four dedicated pickleball courts. This project carries an estimated cost of $18,880, signaling a commitment to expanding recreational offerings for residents.

Next Steps and Funding

Supervisors anticipate making decisions on both initiatives by early November. Peachey indicated that unassigned grant funds are available to finance these significant improvements, providing a boost to the township’s recreational infrastructure.

New Warehouse for Disaster Relief

In addition to the recreational upgrades, supervisors approved plans for a new warehouse dedicated to assembling disaster relief and hygiene kits. The facility will be situated on 3.7 acres south of White Horse Machine’s manufacturing site at 122 White Horse Road, Gap.

Named White Horse Relief, the 21,360-square-foot warehouse will focus on producing emergency kits for refugees and disaster survivors. Construction cost estimates have not yet been released, but the property owners anticipate completing the facility by year’s end.
