Pickleball’s Path Ahead in Russellville Partnering for Progress

Pickleball’s Path Ahead in Russellville Partnering: In a recent “Meeting with the Mayor,” Russellville Mayor Fred Teague and Arkansas Tech University President Dr. Russell Jones shared insights on their ongoing collaboration and future plans. Held in the Chambers West Dining Room, the meeting emphasized the importance of the partnership between the city and the university.

A Bright Future for Pickleball

Both leaders highlighted key initiatives aimed at fostering community growth.

“We are going to build six pickleball courts at the Russellville Soccer Complex. They should open in the spring of 2025.” – (Mayor Teague)

Teague noted that the addition of turf on several ball fields has significantly increased the number of teams participating in local tournaments, nearly quadrupling previous figures.

Economic Development on the Horizon

The mayor also touched on exciting developments in the area.

“They are building Panda Express and Chipotle. Academy Sports is coming. And we are going to announce one more (restaurant) either Friday or Monday.” – (Mayor Teague)

Teague expressed enthusiasm about Point Remove becoming a new attraction for students in downtown Russellville.

“We are trying hard to complement what you are doing here at ATU.” – (Mayor Teague)

Strengthening Community Ties

Dr. Jones praised Teague and Pope County Judge Ben Cross for their dedication to the university and the community.

“I saw a sign that said ‘ATU loves Russellville, and Russellville loves ATU.’ It’s really nice to have the mayor here so active. We appreciate the partnership. It takes everybody working together to make things attractive. As they grow, we all grow.” – (Jones)

Teague showed the significance of building strong relationships within the community.

“If ATU doesn’t thrive, we don’t thrive. We’ve seen so much growth, but we still have that small-town feel. I believe in 10 years (Russellville) will grow…hopefully, it will look a lot like it does now, but bigger.” – (Teague)
