Battle of The Paddles Tournament in Villa Rica Becomes More Interesting With This Unique Feature

Battle of The Paddles Tournament in Villa Rica: The Battle of The Paddles (BOTP) tournament, hosted by Pickleball Compete – VR Complete Pickleball, is set to take place from October 12 to October 13, 2024, at Gold Dust Park, located at 646 Industrial Blvd, Villa Rica, Georgia. This pickleball event is set to be one of the premier pickleball tournaments of the year, featuring a series of exciting competitions across various categories. Pickleball Players will have the chance to compete for cash prizes and the coveted BlackHAT trophy, awarded to standout performances in specific singles events.

Tournament Format and Events

BOTP prides itself on being inclusive, allowing pickleball players of all skill levels to participate. The tournament features a variety of events spread across the two days:

  • Saturday Events:
    • Men’s Doubles Event
    • Youth Event
    • Women’s Doubles Event
  • Sunday Events:
    • Mixed Doubles Events
    • Singles and Skinny Singles Events
    • One BlackHAT trophy will be awarded for both Men’s Singles 3.5+ and Women’s Singles 3.0 to 3.5 or Women’s Skinny Singles Events.

The tournament format will include single round-robin matches, with the possibility of merging events based on the number of participants. The BOTP has specific guidelines to ensure fair play and competition, with awards given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishes across the events.

Tournament Structure: Single Round Robin Format

The pickleball tournament structure is designed to ensure fair play and competitive balance:

  • Events with fewer than three teams will be merged with or moved to another event at the tournament director’s discretion.
  • For three or four teams, a single round-robin format will be played. The top two seeds will compete for Gold and Silver, while the third seed automatically secures Bronze.
  • With five teams, a similar single round-robin format applies, leading to Gold/Silver matches for the top two and a Bronze match between the third and fourth seeds.

For events exceeding five teams, pools will be arranged, ensuring competitive matches as teams vie for advancement into the medal rounds. Teams will compete to 11 points, with a two-point margin needed for victory, using a tiebreaker system based on International Federation of Pickleball (IFP) standards.

Merging Events and Medal Awards

Due to varying skill levels, some events may be subject to merging based on registration numbers. If fewer than three teams sign up for an event, they may be moved to the next bracket, either up or down, at the tournament director’s discretion.

In cases of Lower Skill Merges, where a 3.0 skill team merges with a 2.5 skill event, the team will only receive medals for the merged event, regardless of their original registration. Conversely, Higher Skill Merges will allow teams to earn medals in both the merge and their original brackets, ensuring recognition of their performance across varying skill levels.

Awards and Medals

The competition ends with medals awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishes. The initial playoff rounds will consist of one game to 11, while Bronze matches will be best of three, and Gold/Silver matches for 2.5 level events will also follow a best of three format.

Participants must register to compete in the BOTP. The registration fee is $40, which includes entry into at least three events. Additional events can be entered for an extra $10 each.
