CCARC Brings Pickleball Joy to Adults with Disabilities: On a vibrant Tuesday afternoon, Club Pickleball in Meriden transformed into a lively hub of laughter and camaraderie as new players enthusiastically took to the courts. Approximately a dozen adults from CCARC, a nonprofit organization based in New Britain, gathered to enjoy the recently opened pickleball facilities. These adults, supported by CCARC for their intellectual and developmental challenges, embraced the spirit of the game, creating a heartwarming atmosphere.
Empowering Experiences
“These guys get so much out of it, it gives us another reason to wake up in the morning and do this job,” Tom Cadden from CCARC shared, reflecting on the joy and fulfillment the activity brings. “It’s a lot of fun and you see these guys having fun, it’s just a great experience.” For many participants, the opportunity to engage in sports builds a deep sense of belonging and empowerment, highlighting the profound impact such activities can have on their lives.
Smiles All Around
The event was organized by the Beautiful Lives Project, a national initiative dedicated to providing individuals with disabilities the chance to participate in various sports and activities. “There’s nothing better than the smile on everyone’s faces that you see there,” said Club Pickleball Co-Owner Michael Marotta. “To hear they’re having a good time, you can’t put a price on it.” His heartfelt words cover the transformative power of sports in creating lasting memories and joy for everyone involved.
Looking Ahead
The fun doesn’t stop here. On Thursday, the Beautiful Lives Project will lead participants to New Britain for an exciting football session with the team at Central Connecticut State University. This upcoming event continues the project’s mission to break barriers and foster inclusivity, one game at a time.
