First Paddle Launches New Initiative in Aiken: Merging Pickleball with Life Skills

First Paddle Launches New Initiative in Aiken: First Paddle, an exciting new pickleball training program for kids, is ready to launch its first session! Designed for ages 12 to 14, this six-week program will start on Sunday, October 13, and run every week from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the St. John’s Methodist Church gym in downtown Aiken. The program not only introduces young players to the fun of pickleball but also helps them develop important life skills along the way. It’s a great opportunity for kids to learn, make new friends, and get active! Don’t miss out!

Integrating Character Development

As part of the Southern Pickleball Academy, First Paddle goes beyond just teaching pickleball. The program incorporates character-building activities into its curriculum. Participants will not only learn the game’s fundamentals but also engage in lessons that promote teamwork, sportsmanship, resilience, and leadership. This unique approach uses pickleball as a tool for personal growth, helping young athletes build confidence on and off the court.

Experienced Leadership

Leading the sessions will be Lisa Barrett-Johnson, a certified pickleball professional with a passion for youth development. Along with her team of trained mentors, Barrett-Johnson draws from her own experiences in sports to emphasize the importance of participation.
