Good Sam Grand Slam Pickleball Tournament: Serve Up Fun While Supporting Local Heroes

The inaugural Good Sam Grand Slam pickleball tournament will take place on October 12-13, 2024, at the Greenwood High School Tennis Courts in Greenwood, Arkansas. This pickleball event aims to raise funds for both the Good Samaritan Clinic and the Greenwood High School Boys Soccer Team, promising an exciting weekend of competition while benefiting vital local organizations.

Supporting Local Healthcare and Youth Sports

The Good Samaritan Clinic, a local 501c3 nonprofit, has been a cornerstone of community care since 2003, providing essential healthcare services to the uninsured and underserved in the region. Proceeds from the tournament will support the clinic’s mission, ensuring it can continue offering compassionate medical services.

Additionally, funds will aid the Greenwood High School Boys Soccer Team in acquiring necessary equipment and covering travel expenses, helping them prepare for a successful season.

Skill Divisions and Tournament Format

The pickleball tournament is open to a wide range of skill levels, featuring divisions for players categorized as beginner/novice (2.5-2.99), low intermediate (3.0-3.49), upper intermediate (3.5-3.99), and advanced (4.0+). Matches will be conducted in a Round Robin format, with games played to 15 points, win by 2.

Following the round robin, some brackets may transition to a single elimination format to determine medal winners. With a minimum of five teams required to maintain separate brackets, tournament organizers may combine divisions as necessary.

Registration and Incentives

Participants are encouraged to register early, as the first 120 players will receive a free tournament t-shirt sponsored by Fort Smith EMS. There is a service fee of approximately $5 for one event and $10 for two events, which will be processed through the Pickleball Brackets website.

Spectators can enjoy the matches at no cost but should bring their own seating, as outdoor seating is limited. Tents for shade will be allowed, the viewing experience for attendees.

Weather Considerations and Refund Policy

Since this is an outdoor pickleball tournament, weather might affect the schedule. If it rains, the tournament will be postponed to October 19 and 20, 2024.
If it can’t happen on those dates either, participants are encouraged to treat their entry fee as a donation to support the local community, highlighting the event’s charitable purpose. To qualify for a refund, participants must withdraw by October 6, 2024.

Venue Details and Contact Information

The pickleball tournament will be hosted at the Greenwood High School Tennis Courts, featuring 14 outdoor hardcourts with portable nets. Participants can expect a lively atmosphere as they compete on a surface designed for high-level play. For any inquiries, players can contact members of the tournament committee via text, ensuring effective communication leading up to the event.

The Good Sam Grand Slam presents a unique opportunity for pickleball enthusiasts to engage in competitive play while making a significant impact in their community. With the dual mission of supporting local healthcare and youth sports, this tournament is assured to become a cherished annual event in Greenwood, Arkansas.
