The Picklr Franchise Expands to Westbrook From Utah to Maine

The Picklr Franchise Expands to Westbrook: Maine is embracing the pickleball phenomenon with remarkable enthusiasm. A new indoor pickleball facility is set to take over the former Shaw’s supermarket site in Westbrook, which closed its doors in 2022. The Picklr franchise, which originated in Utah, is expanding its reach to the Pine Tree State.

A Game-Changing Space

Spanning an impressive 64,000 square feet, the new Picklr facility will feature 19 state-of-the-art courts. Jeff Maguire, the franchise owner, expressed his excitement about the project.

Being able to bring pickleball to the Greater Portland area is very exciting. Growing up in New England and loving the area, it is amazing to get the opportunity to bring the life changing sport of pickleball to the state of Maine. Whether you are just learning the sport, enjoy playing for the health and the social aspect, or have aspirations to pursue playing in the professional leagues, the Picklr is for you.”-(jeff maguire)

Breaking Stereotypes

While many may still view pickleball as a pastime for the older generation, the reality is quite different. Once a backyard game invented in 1965 in Washington state, pickleball has evolved into a dynamic sport that attracts players of all ages. The game, which combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, has shed its initial reputation and captured the interest of younger generations.

A personal experience underscores this shift. During a winter visit to a recreational center, two teenagers showcased their skills on the pickleball court, with 50 eager players waiting for their turn.

The Future is Bright

The story of pickleball’s rapid expansion from Utah to Maine is a testament to its growing popularity. As courts with Just Courts surfaces—officially endorsed by the Professional Pickleball Association—prepare to welcome enthusiasts in Westbrook, the future of the sport looks incredibly promising.
