Gastric Cancer Pickleball Fundraiser: The 3rd Annual It Takes Guts Pickleball Tournament, presented by Southern Pickleball, will take place at the Rome Indoor Tennis Courts in Rome, Georgia, from November 22-24, 2024. This event is dedicated to raising awareness and funds for the Gastric Cancer Foundation, with a special dedication to Don Plante, an active member of the pickleball community who recently passed away due to stomach cancer. The tournament will honor his memory and continue to support the fight against gastric cancer, alongside Hans Rueffert, a survivor of the disease and advocate for the cause.

Tournament Structure and Schedule

The It Takes Guts Pickleball Tournament is a three-day event, offering competitive play across various divisions. Participants will be organized into skill levels from 2.5 to 4.5+, and the tournament will also be divided by age groups after registration. Matches will take place on 12 climate-controlled indoor courts, ensuring a comfortable playing environment for all participants.

Additional Details:

  • Start times may begin as early as 8:00 AM each day, and specific schedules will be emailed to participants approximately one week before the event.
  • DUPR ratings will be used to determine player levels, and teams must compete at the higher-rated player’s skill level and the younger player’s age group.
  • Matches will be self-monitored, though referees may be provided if requested.

Registration, Refund Policy, and Partner Selection

Participants are encouraged to register early for the tournament. The registration fee includes participation in one event, with the option to join additional events for a nominal fee. Players may also indicate if they need a partner during registration, but it is their responsibility to find one before the event.
