Huntsville’s Ambitious Pickleball Project: On Wednesday morning, the City of Huntsville marked a significant milestone by breaking ground on exciting new additions to John Hunt Park. Among the new features are a state-of-the-art fitness room and multiple courts for volleyball, basketball, and, notably, pickleball.

“This will be the largest pickleball facility in the city, and with this central location located right here, it will be convenient for everybody.” – (City Council Member Bill Kling)

James Gossett, the Parks and Recreation Director, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that these new additions address a pressing need for more recreational space in Huntsville. Sue Marshall, a board member of the Huntsville Pickleball Club, expressed her enthusiasm for the project.

“City has been great, just listened to all the things that we thought were important, to help bring people in, to be able to put tournaments on and yet at the same time to be able to provide enough courts for our people who live here to enjoy this game.” – (Sue Marshall)

The excitement surrounding the project is palpable, with many in the community eagerly anticipating the completion of the new facility. Construction on the $18.5 million project is set to end in December 2025, promising a bright future for pickleball and other sports in Huntsville.
