Round Rock Invests 14 Mn Dollars in Pickleball Courts, Old Settlers Park Expansion

Round Rock Invests 14 Mn Dollars in Pickleball Courts: The Round Rock City Council approved an amendment on October 24 to advance the development of new tennis courts and pickleball courts at Old Settlers Park. This project, which launched in September, marks a substantial upgrade to the park and its facilities, aligning with the city’s goal to enhance recreational spaces for its residents.

The Current Situation

Round Rock is collaborating with SpawGlass Contractors for the Old Settlers Park development. The council unanimously approved an updated maximum price of $13,971,898 to cover the park’s new courts, including tennis and pickleball facilities.

The contract outlines plans for 17 tennis courts and nine pickleball courts, complete with seating, utilities, and lighting. Currently, Old Settlers Park hosts 12 tennis courts but lacks dedicated pickleball courts. In addition, a new parking lot will be constructed near the Silver Slugger Complex to connect with Harrell Parkway.

“I think we’re gonna see that we have quite a busy complex once it gets going.” said Rick Atkins, Director of Parks and Recreation, at an agenda packet briefing on October 22.

Project Expansion Plans

The park’s broader development initiatives include:

  • Enhancements to Rock’N River water park, with increased parking.
  • Civil and electrical upgrades for event infrastructure.
  • Expansion of the Multipurpose Complex with six new fields.
  • Upgrades along Harrell Parkway.

These improvements are funded by bonds approved by voters in 2023, indicating strong community support for recreational enhancements in Round Rock.

Construction of the new tennis and pickleball courts is set to commence on December 24, with completion projected for November of next year. Once finished, the updated facilities promise to make Old Settlers Park a central hub for sports and community gatherings.
