The Lilac Pickleball Breakfast Club’s Impact on the Sport: Florida is Fueling Pickleball’s Rise

Lilac Pickleball Breakfast Club: In 2024, pickleball continues to gain traction across the United States, with Florida emerging as a hotspot for this increasingly popular sport. At the heart of this surge lies Palm Beach Gardens, a vibrant city with a population of approximately 59,000 residents and more than 60 dedicated pickleball courts.

The Meetup Explosion

In 2021, Palm Beach Gardens boasted just 29 pickleball meetup groups. Fast forward to today, and that number has skyrocketed to over 550 active groups on various social media platforms. This remarkable growth reflects not only the rising interest in pickleball but also the community’s eagerness to embrace the sport.

One notable group that shows this trend is the Lilac Pickleball Breakfast Club. Founded by Christopher Maza in 2021, this unique gathering combines pickleball with breakfast, offering a delightful way for players to socialize and enjoy the game.

Lilac Park, where the group plays, features 24 pickleball courts that are often bustling with activity. The dedication of this group is evident, as they continue to play even amidst rain showers. In fact, they made headlines for showing up during Hurricane Milton, seizing every opportunity to hit the courts whenever the storm briefly relented.

A National Movement

“Groups like this are popping up all over the U.S.” said Carl Foster, host of the nationally syndicated TV show, Inside World Pickleball. “The sport continues to grow even after the big explosion during Covid.” he added, highlighting the sport’s enduring popularity.

Palm Beach Gardens is just a small sample of the attraction of pickleball. The sport’s growth trajectory is remarkable, already attracting more players than golf and tennis combined. With such statistics in mind, it is safe to assert that pickleball is here to stay, expanding its reach in countries around the globe.
