Pickleball Leagues Launch in Cambridge for Beginners to Pros

Pickleball Leagues Launch in Cambridge: Cambridge residents are set to experience the thrill of one of North America’s fastest-growing sports as Elevation Athletics launches beginner and experienced pickleball leagues this month at St. Elizabeth Catholic Elementary School. This initiative comes in response to a growing demand for recreational activities, particularly during the winter months.

The concept emerged following a successful collaboration between Elevation Athletics and city staff during the summer, where games were held at Duncan McIntosh Arena. The partnership revealed a significant interest among players seeking indoor options, leading to the decision to utilize the school facility in Hespeler.

A Passion for Pickleball

Stephanie Merrick, an administrator with Elevation Athletics, is enthusiastic about bringing this opportunity to the community. “What’s great about pickleball is it doesn’t matter what your background is,” Merrick explained. “It doesn’t matter if you’ve played sports or what age you are. It’s great for young people, seniors, everyone can join.”

Merrick’s own journey into pickleball reflects this inclusivity. With a long history in sports and recreation, she discovered the game through friendships—a pathway many players share.

Benefits Beyond the Game

The physical and mental benefits of recreational activities are well-documented, from the health advantages of regular exercise to the social connections that form on the court. Merrick highlighted how easily individuals can pick up the sport, making it a favorite choice among all age groups.

The beginner league is tailored for those new to the game, focusing on essential drills and skills before diving into actual play. Conversely, the experienced league caters to those already familiar with pickleball. Elevation Athletics prioritizes fun over competition, creating an inviting environment for all participants.

“It’s a great community,” Merrick said. “There’s so many people that want to go out and make new friends in a positive atmosphere. It’s a great way to make and keep friends.”

League Play Details

The league is set to commence on November 13 and will run until January 22, offering an exciting opportunity for Cambridge residents to engage in a growing sport that promises enjoyment and connection.
