PeaceHealth and Kidsports Unite: As parents in the Eugene area grapple with the dilemma of childcare on school holidays, a promising partnership has emerged between PeaceHealth and Kidsports. This collaboration aims to provide ‘play days’ for children, ensuring that their time off from school is both safe and enjoyable.
Addressing Childcare Needs
In November alone, four days will be designated as ‘no school’ days, presenting a significant challenge for parents who need childcare solutions. To meet this growing demand, PeaceHealth and Kidsports will host play days for up to 80 first through fifth-graders on November 8, November 11, November 25, and November 26, with additional dates anticipated throughout the academic year.
Play Days Full of Fun and Activity
The play days will occur at the Kidsports field house located on Amazon Parkway in Eugene, running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, for a fee of $60. Activities are designed to keep kids active and engaged, featuring dodgeball, kickball, basketball, obstacle course challenges, and even pickleball. For working parents seeking extra coverage, extended care will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for an additional $15.
Bev Smith, executive director of Emerald Kidsports, highlighted the commitment to affordability, stating, “We do have three to four member family discounts and we also provide scholarship assistance if a family’s eligible. We will provide a 25% reduction in that registration fee for the child to be here during that activity.”
A Vision for Community Wellness
This partnership is not just about keeping kids entertained; it reflects a broader vision for fostering healthy habits among youth. Jim McGovern, MD, chief hospital executive of PeaceHealth Oregon, emphasized the importance of the initiative, saying, “We are happy to contribute to Kidsports and this wonderful program that helps fill a need in our community. We hope these play days build healthy habits for local children while also providing parents with peace of mind on no-school days.”
