Big Pickleball Plans in Medford as 19 Courts Set the Stage for National Events

Big Pickleball Plans in Medford: The Southern Oregon Pickleball Foundation Board has announced an ambitious plan to develop a tournament-ready pickleball facility in Medford. The facility is set to offer 19 outdoor courts, with the goal of hosting local, regional, and national tournaments, boosting Medford’s profile as a top pickleball destination.

Location and Partnerships

In partnership with the Wes Howard Memorial Sports Park Foundation, the board has secured land adjacent to Rogue X, a strategic location expected to draw players and spectators alike. This collaboration has laid the groundwork for establishing Medford as a premier pickleball hub in the country.

High Demand for Pickleball in Southern Oregon

Southern Oregon Pickleball Foundation Board member Brad Hicks highlighted the community’s enthusiasm for the sport. “It’s kind of unbelievable; the amount of pickleball played here per capita is really off the charts,” Hicks said. “So regularly, the Medford-Ashland region will be in the top 10 of pickleball court sites and games scheduled in the whole country.” This level of engagement signals strong support for the new facility and an opportunity to grow the sport further.

Funding Progress and Remaining Needs

The organizations have already secured approximately $800,000 in funding for the facility, covering half of the estimated $1.6 million needed to begin construction. With $800,000 still required, the Southern Oregon Pickleball Foundation is actively seeking additional funds to bring the facility closer to reality.
