Serve for Safety Pickleball Tournament: The Tulsa Police Foundation recently held its inaugural Serve for Safety Pickleball Tournament, an event aimed at supporting the Tulsa Police Department through community engagement and fundraising. This first-ever tournament was hosted on Saturday morning at the Philcrest Hills Tennis and Pickleball Club, located in south Tulsa.
Connecting Citizens and Officers on the Court
The “Serve for Safety” tournament provided citizens with a unique opportunity to connect with Tulsa police officers through the popular sport of pickleball. Participants paid a registration fee to join the tournament, enabling them to compete alongside Tulsa officers in a friendly setting.
The Appeal of Pickleball
Sarah Jane Gillett, Executive Director of the Tulsa Police Foundation, explained the choice of pickleball as the event’s central activity.
“Well pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the United States and it’s really easy to learn. We have beginner and intermediate and advanced brackets, so we got a lot of officers to play and it’s a lot of fun.” – (Sarah Jane Gillett)
By structuring the tournament with skill-based brackets, the event welcomed players of all levels, promoting inclusivity and engagement.
Supporting Critical Police Resources
All proceeds from the tournament will contribute to the purchase of a new DNA testing machine for the Tulsa Police Department. This essential tool will enhance the department’s forensic capabilities, reinforcing public safety initiatives in the Tulsa community.
