Danbury’s New Pickleball Courts Set to Boost Local Recreation

Danbury’s New Pickleball Courts: Pickleball players wasted no time breaking in the freshly painted courts at Danbury’s War Memorial gymnasium. After a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday afternoon, local players eagerly took to the newly marked floors, showing the popularity of this fast-growing sport. The War Memorial, located at 1 Memorial Drive, now offers three pickleball courts within the gym, painted onto the new basketball court floor.

Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

Mayor Roberto L. Alves led the celebratory event, joined by Shaun Ratchford, Danbury’s Recreation Department director, and Abe Kayal, president of the War Memorial’s board.

City officials, community leaders, and members of the public attended the ceremony, showing support for the latest addition to Danbury’s recreational facilities. Each speaker underscored the court’s significance to Danbury’s commitment to expanding sports and recreation for residents of all ages.

A Pickleball Facility Serving All Ages

Following the official ceremony, members of the Senior Center Pickleball Club were first to take advantage of the new pickleball courts. With paddles in hand, they quickly filled the space, showing the sport’s appeal across generations.

The courts, part of a broader effort to update the gym facilities, are expected to attract even more residents to Danbury’s War Memorial for exercise, friendship, and competitive play.
