Park North Drops SmashHouse as Developer: Pangea Development officially terminated its partnership with SmashHouse, LLC for the planned Park North pickleball courts. The pickleball courts, announced earlier this year as a new feature of Park North, were initially set to be developed by SmashHouse, LLC, a firm involved in the design and development of the pickleball facility. The decision to cut ties came after an internal review by Pangea Development and was finalized on October 28, as confirmed by Sean Goding, President of Pangea Development.
Project Cancellation Following Internal Review
According to Sean Goding, an internal review of SmashHouse, LLC’s involvement revealed issues with the company’s commitment to the project. He stated that SmashHouse, LLC had failed to extend the Park North land purchase agreement the previous week, creating uncertainty over the site’s future. In a statement Goding explained,
“The SmashHouse project was already under review internally due to the SmashHouse, LLC not extending the Park North land purchase agreement last week and resulting uncertainty surrounding the SmashHouse site location. For this and other emergent reasons involving the SmashHouse leadership team that are beyond Pangea’s scope, role or responsibility, the decision was made to terminate our involvement with the SmashHouse, LLC and its development team.” – (Sean Goding)
Lack of Response from SmashHouse
Requests for comments from SmashHouse, LLC went unanswered. The company’s silence has only added to the speculation surrounding the project’s fate. With SmashHouse no longer involved, the future of the pickleball courts at Park North is now in question.
Initial Approval and Location
Initially approved by the city council in May, the Park North development, which includes the pickleball court project, is situated at a strategic site bordered by Route 143, Interstate 55, and north of Plummer Family Park.
The location was envisioned as a community asset within the Park North business district, adding another recreational feature to Edwardsville.
