Silver Spring’s Pickleball Expansion Six New Courts Open at East Norbeck Park

Silver Spring’s Pickleball Expansion: Montgomery Parks is stepping up to meet the surging demand for pickleball with the addition of six brand-new dedicated pickleball courts at East Norbeck Local Park in Silver Spring, unveiled on November 13. This expansion brings the total number of dedicated pickleball courts in Montgomery County to 18, with over 50 more shared with tennis. This move is part of the county’s ongoing effort to support the growing popularity of pickleball and ensure residents have ample access to this fast-growing sport.

For longtime tennis players who frequented East Norbeck, Montgomery Parks offers an alternative nearby. Just five minutes away, Olney Manor Recreational Park boasts 19 tennis courts to continue serving the needs of tennis enthusiasts while balancing the increased demand for pickleball facilities.

A Strategic Location for Pickleball’s Growth

Chuck Kines, a park planner with Montgomery Parks, highlighted the strategic importance of the new courts. “East Norbeck Local Park is the perfect location for our newest pickleball destination hub,” Kines stated. “With ample parking and excellent lighting, it’s an ideal spot for the growing number of pickleball players in the area.”

This expansion at East Norbeck is just one piece of a larger initiative to further develop pickleball options in Montgomery County. According to Kines, the interest in pickleball continues to surge, and local parks are adapting to meet the demand. With more projects on the horizon, it’s clear that pickleball is not just a passing trend, but a sport that is here to stay and expand within the community.
