Mahomet Starts Planning Pickleball Courts at 13 Acres Park with a Huge Investment

Mahomet Starts Planning Pickleball Courts: Mahomet’s hopes for dedicated pickleball courts at 13 Acres Park are inching forward, though players need to temper their excitement. At the upcoming village board meeting, officials will review a resolution to approve an engineering service agreement with Farnsworth Group Inc. for preliminary design work. However, this is just the first step, and the actual construction of the courts may still be several years away.

Preliminary Design Agreement on the Table

The resolution, set for discussion at Tuesday’s board meeting, includes an agreement not to exceed $28,250 for the preliminary design services at 13 Acres Park. This agreement is intended to gather enough data to plan the project and estimate costs for future budget considerations.

“It’s a critical first step, but the timeline for completion remains uncertain.” – (Village Administrator Patrick Brown)

A Long Road Ahead

While the planning phase is underway, Brown emphasized that the courts’ construction remains far from certain.

“It’s way too early to know what year they’ll be built in.” – (brown)

For now, village officials continue to field regular inquiries from local pickleball players eager for an update. Brown noted that the village’s priority remains to ensure the pickleball courts are built with the proper planning and funding in place.

Plans for a Multi-Sport Complex

Once built, the pickleball courts will be part of a larger, multi-sport park that will feature four courts as its first major amenity. In the meantime, Mahomet residents looking to play pickleball have access to the new combination tennis/pickleball courts at Middletown Park, where half of the courts are lined for both sports.

During the winter months, pickleball is also offered at Lincoln Trail Elementary. The village board meeting, where the resolution will be discussed, will take place at 6 p.m. in the administration building.

Mahomet’s village board will review a resolution to approve a $28,250 engineering service agreement for preliminary design work at 13 Acres Park. The courts are still in the early planning stages, with construction likely a few years away.

Village Administrator Patrick Brown emphasized that this initial phase will provide necessary data for budgeting purposes. The first four pickleball courts are part of a larger multi-sport park development, but for now, players can use Middletown Park’s combination courts or Lincoln Trail Elementary during the winter months.
