Pickleball Arrives in Paradise Community Park, Major Upgrade Announced

Pickleball Arrives in Paradise Community Park: At the November 19 meeting of the Paradise Township Board of Supervisors, plans for a major park upgrade were announced, with a spotlight on the addition of pickleball courts at Paradise Community Park. With the sport’s popularity surging across the country, residents are set to enjoy new facilities tailored to pickleball players of all skill levels.

Gaming Funds Fuel Pickleball Court Construction

The park’s pickleball courts are part of a larger $650,000 upgrade to the community park, funded by $400,000 in state gaming revenues. The new courts will be a key feature of the park’s revitalization, providing a dedicated space for pickleball, which has become one of the most popular recreational sports in the region.

This development will cater to the growing demand for pickleball facilities, allowing local players to practice and compete in a welcoming environment.

  • State Funding: $400,000 from the Local Share Account program will cover the cost of new amenities, including the pickleball courts.
  • Local Contribution: An additional $250,000 will be contributed by the township to ensure the completion of the full upgrade.

Pickleball’s Popularity Sparks Park Improvements

The decision to build dedicated pickleball courts comes as no surprise, given the increasing demand for facilities tailored to the sport. In addition to serving casual players, the new courts will likely host tournaments and other competitive events, further raising the profile of pickleball in the area.

Paradise Township’s investment in these courts is a response to the growing national trend of cities enhancing recreational spaces to accommodate the increasing popularity of pickleball, ensuring the community can continue to engage in the sport without competing for space on general tennis courts.

Taxes and Traffic Safety Updates

In addition to the park improvements, the board approved a 35-mph speed limit on Belmont Road between Route 30 and the covered bridge. The speed limit near Paradise Elementary School will remain at 15 mph during school drop-off and pickup times. The real estate tax rate will remain steady at 1.1082 mills, with the average tax bill for a property assessed at $100,000 being $110.82.

Addressing Traffic Safety Concerns

Public comments at the meeting also raised concerns about safety at the intersection of South Belmont and Georgetown roads. Thompson noted that a temporary traffic signal had been in place during road construction, but the removal of the signal has led to an uptick in accidents. While PennDOT has acknowledged the need for safety improvements at the intersection, specific plans for addressing the issue have not yet been outlined.
