Vellano Park Pickleball Courts Temporarily Shut for Upgrades

Vellano Park Pickleball Courts: Vellano Park in Chino Hills will be closed to the public starting Monday, Dec. 2, for two months to allow for the resurfacing of its pickleball courts and expansion of its parking lot. The work is expected to be completed by the end of January, weather permitting.

Located at 16321 Aviano Lane, south of Woodview Road, Vellano Park will be fully closed during the project, with no access to its pickleball courts, basketball courts, gazebos, restrooms, or playgrounds. Chino Hills spokeswoman Nicole Freeman confirmed that no public access will be allowed to any part of the park during this time.

Pickleball Court Upgrades and Alternatives

The resurfacing of the pickleball courts is a key component of the renovation. Residents who regularly use the courts will need to look for alternative locations during the closure. Freeman encouraged park goers to visit Grand Avenue Park, which has recently resurfaced its own courts.

Residents can also take advantage of the city’s other recreational offerings, including the numerous basketball courts available at parks throughout Chino Hills. Freeman pointed out that there are 17 other parks with half or full basketball courts that residents can use while Vellano Park is closed.

Funding and Project Scope

The total cost of the project is $255,000, which is being funded by the Vellano Landscape and Lighting District. In addition to resurfacing the courts, the project includes an expansion of the park’s parking lot, adding 15 spaces to the current lot. The improvements will bring the total number of parking spaces at the park to 35.
