Peachland’s Pickleball Locations: Peachland is progressing with plans to build new pickleball courts, but the timeline for construction remains uncertain. During the Nov. 26 meeting, the council directed staff to issue a request for proposals (RFP) to construct up to four courts, with a budget cap of $200,000. This plan follows an Urban Systems report estimating the design and construction cost at $315,000, including a 30% contingency.
“We’re going to build what we can for up to $200,000,” stated CAO Joe Creron, acknowledging the possibility that only two courts may be feasible within the budget. The Peachland Pickleball Society would be responsible for costs exceeding the district’s contribution, which will be drawn from the Communities Growth Fund. Additionally, the council requested a fundraising plan from the society to support the project.

Debating the Location
Lambly Park, situated near Peachland Village Mall, is the proposed site for the courts. However, Councillor Doug Collins suggested Cousins Park on Beach Avenue as a better alternative, highlighting its amenities.
“The noise issue falls away. There’s lots of parking, there’s washrooms nearby. Combined with the four (courts) in the community centre you’ve now got eight; they can have tournaments.” – (Doug Collins)
Despite this suggestion, Councillor Terry Condon urged caution, referring to Cousins Park as “the third rail” and advising against its development.
“Cousins Park is the third rail. Be very careful about developing Cousins Park.” – (Terry Condon)
Community Input and Survey Results
A recent survey revealed mixed public opinions on the project. While 71% of respondents supported building the courts at Lambly Park, 29% expressed concerns about parking, noise, and loss of green space.
Moreover, staff highlighted findings from the 2024 Peachland Citizens Survey, where pickleball ranked 26th out of 43 services in satisfaction and was rated the second least important service. Councillor Randy Brophey abstained from the discussion and vote due to a conflict of interest.
