Monroe Rotary’s Pickleball Tournament Smashes Fundraising Goal

Monroe Rotary’s Pickleball Tournament: The Monroe Rotary Club recently organized a well-received pickleball tournament at the Monroe Golf & Country Club, located just outside of town. This event, sponsored by 22 local businesses and Rotary members, raised more than $5,000 to benefit high school scholarships and various community projects, according to Rotary Chairwoman Linda Wood.

A Diverse Group of Competitors

A total of 32 players, ranging in age from 20 to 73, came out to compete in the tournament. The participants hailed from the local area, as well as Athens and Covington, and were grouped by skill level and gender. The event highlighted the growing popularity of pickleball as a sport accessible to a wide variety of people.

Rotary’s Vision for the Future

“We chose to focus on pickleball for this event because of its popularity and accessibility to such a wide range of people. From all appearances, the contestants enjoyed socializing as much as they did their time on the court and stepping forth for medals and raffle prizes.” – (Linda Wood)

Wood also expressed gratitude for the volunteers and players who helped make the event a success.

“We are grateful to our volunteers and players for their willingness to give their time, energy and talents to our efforts. We could not have done it without them. Next year we hope to grow the event to raise even more money for worthy local causes.” – (Linda Wood)

Looking ahead, she hopes to grow the tournament in the future to raise even more money for local causes.
