McLean High School’s Pickleball Team Takes Virginia Pickleball Championship Title

McLean High School’s pickleball team achieved a monumental victory at the Virginia State High School Pickleball Championship on December 2. In a dominant performance, they defeated Oaktown High School 5-0 at the Tyson’s Pickleball Club to claim the coveted title. This victory marks a significant milestone for McLean High, as they continue to make waves in high school pickleball.

A Dominant Path to Victory

The McLean team’s journey to the state championship was nothing short of impressive. Throughout the tournament, they displayed unmatched skill and determination, beginning with a commanding win over Centreville High School in the quarter-finals.

The momentum carried them into the semi-finals, where they cruised past Washington Liberty High School, before sealing their victory with the decisive 5-0 win in the final.

Big Rewards for a Big Win

As champions, McLean High School received more than just the state title. The team earned $1,000 in prize money, a trophy, and valuable sponsorships from Engage Pickleball and Franklin Sports.

Their success now sets the stage for a new challenge—McLean is eyeing the National Championships scheduled for 2025, with hopes of continuing their remarkable rise in the sport.

The Largest Student-Run Pickleball Club in the World

What sets McLean High School apart is the size and enthusiasm of its pickleball club. With 300 student members, the McLean Pickleball Club stands as the largest student-run pickleball organization globally.

This achievement speaks to the growing popularity of the sport among young athletes and the dedication of McLean’s students to their athletic pursuits.

Challenges on the Horizon

Despite the celebration, the McLean community faces potential challenges. There have been reports that two pickleball and tennis courts in the McLean area may be removed as part of the Fairfax County Park Authority’s plans.

Specifically, courts at Linway Terrace Park are under consideration for relocation. However, according to an FCPA spokesperson, while plans are being considered, no immediate changes are expected.
