The first annual Mega Winter Classic pickleball tournament is scheduled for February 22-23, 2025, at MEGA Pickleball in Minnetonka, Minnesota. The tournament will feature a wide range of competitive divisions, including men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles. Skill levels range from 3.0 to 5.0, with the open divisions offering significant cash prizes. The men’s and women’s open doubles divisions will each offer a $1,750 purse, with first-place winners taking home $1,000. All teams will play pool play followed by single elimination rounds. Medals will be awarded for the top three finishers in each division.
A Day of Intense Pickleball Action
On Saturday, the tournament will feature men’s and women’s doubles matches, with divisions for various skill levels, from 3.0 to 5.0. Sunday will see the mixed doubles competition across similar skill levels.
Each team is guaranteed a minimum of four games, and matches will take place throughout the day, starting as early as 8 a.m. and ending as late as 6 p.m. Tournament organizers will finalize the schedule based on registration numbers, which will be announced a few days before the event.
The competition will follow a pool play format, with each team playing one game to 11 points in the initial stage. After pool play, skill division winners will compete in single-elimination brackets, with matches lasting up to 15 points. For medal rounds, matches will be played best two out of three games, each to 11 points.
Prizes and Refund Policy
The prize money in the open divisions is substantial, with the top three finishers in each receiving cash prizes. The prize pool for the men’s and women’s open divisions totals $3,500, with winners getting $1,000.
In addition, 50% refunds will be available until February 15, 2025, after which no refunds will be issued unless specific conditions apply.
Registration and Fees
Registration opened on November 22, 2024, and early birds can still sign up for just $25. Registration costs $40 for skill divisions and $75 for open divisions.
Players can choose the division that matches the higher skill level of their team, and the tournament director may make adjustments if necessary. DUPR ratings are not required but will be recorded for amateur divisions.
