Pickleball Expansion Shakes Up Wailua Parks: Wailua Homesteads Park, a popular recreational spot on Kauai, will remain closed to tennis and basketball activities until January 24, 2025, due to ongoing resurfacing and the addition of new pickleball courts. This significant upgrade is part of a $3.1 million Playcourt Resurfacing Project aimed at improving county facilities.
The closure, originally slated to end in September, has been extended to December 2024 due to delays. Pacific Concrete Cutting & Coring, Inc. is leading the resurfacing work, which is also part of a broader initiative to enhance Wailua Houselots Park, the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex, and Puhi Park. The County of Kauai anticipates that weather permitting, the work will be completed by the extended deadline.
While the shutdown may inconvenience some park-goers, the improvements are expected to provide upgraded facilities that benefit both athletes and casual visitors. The department also requests public patience and will continue to provide updates through county press releases.
