Aquidneck Island Welcomes New Pickleball Facility: Pickleball enthusiasts on Aquidneck Island will soon have a new facility to enjoy. The Newport Pickleball Club is scheduled to open its doors on December 26 at the site of the old Island Cinemas on West Main Road.

The facility will feature 11 pickleball courts, a private event space, and a restaurant with a sports bar and lounge, set to open in February 2025. Programming will include leagues, tournaments, and lessons for both competitive and recreational players.

“Our goal is to amplify all the things that have made pickleball capture the hearts and minds of people of all ages and abilities,”. “It’s fun. It’s active. It’s social. It opens doors to a new community and enhances established ones.”(co-founder John Theberge)

Features and Amenities

The club will include both indoor and outdoor courts, making it a year-round destination for players. A restaurant offering a range of dishes and shareable snacks will enhance the experience for players and visitors alike.

Memberships for individuals and families are available online, but the facility is open to the public as well.

“We sincerely hope this will be a treasured addition to the greater Newport residents and visitors,” (co-founder John Theberge).

Co-founders Theberge and Chuck Irving see the Newport Pickleball Club as a “game-changer” for the local pickleball scene, providing not just a place to play but also a hub for socializing and community events.
