San Angelo’s Smashers Pickleball Facility: Crews in San Angelo, Texas, are making progress on Smashers, a $5 million pickleball facility with a restaurant. Plumbing and foundational work is underway, with plans to open in the summer of 2025.
Facility Details
Smashers will feature seven indoor and two outdoor pickleball courts, an indoor tennis court, a fast-casual restaurant, a full bar, and a 10,000-square-foot outdoor play area for kids. The venue aims to combine sports and entertainment in one location.
The November 2024 Building and Inspection report confirmed the issuance of a $5 million construction permit, signaling the project’s significance for the local community.
Inspiration Behind Smashers
Owners JC and Amber Gallagher were inspired to create Smashers after participating in the “Dink for Pink” pickleball tournament at Bentwood in October 2023. They described the event as pivotal in their decision to bring a dedicated pickleball space to San Angelo.
“We wanted to create a place where families and friends can gather, play, and enjoy,”( Amber Gallagher).
Impact on the Community
The facility is expected to boost recreational opportunities and support the growing popularity of pickleball in San Angelo. It will provide a space for players of all levels to engage in the sport while also offering dining and family-friendly amenities.
Construction continues as Smashers moves toward its anticipated opening in summer 2025, promising a unique addition to San Angelo’s recreational offerings.
