SK Ulu Sungai Merah in Sibu has received a donation of 500 books, thanks to the Borneo Pickleball International Tournament (BPIT). This generous contribution aims to enhance educational resources for 874 pupils at the school.
A Meaningful Contribution
The donation was announced yesterday and underscores the tournament’s commitment to making a positive impact beyond sports. The BPIT is the first pickleball tournament of its scale in Borneo, combining competitive sports with a meaningful community outreach initiative.
Collaboration for Success
To facilitate the donation, the BPIT organizer, Kuching Pickleball Association, collaborated with Business Events Sarawak’s (BESarawak) Books Build Legacy program. They partnered with The Hills Shopping Mall and a local news portal to ensure the project’s success.

Community Engagement
The handover ceremony featured representatives from BESarawak, the management of SK Ulu Sungai Merah, the Malaysian Puppetry Association, the Lions Club of Sibu Seduan, and the village security and development committee (JKKK) of Batu 6-15 Jalan Oya. Their collective efforts highlight the importance of community engagement in such initiatives.
Significance of the Donation
This donation is significant as it improves access to educational resources for students in Sibu. By providing 500 books, the BPIT not only supports learning but also encourages a culture of reading among young pupils.
The positive impact of this initiative could inspire similar outreach efforts in the future, fostering a strong connection between sports and education in the region.
