Pickleball Courts in Harrison County: Harrison County has announced the purchase of 19.6 acres of land from the Biloxi School District for a new sports and recreation complex. The land, located on Debuys Road in Biloxi, was bought for $1 million and is currently used for a maintenance barn. County officials plan to transform the site into a space accessible to the public.
Plans for the Complex
Harrison County Administrator Robert Collins revealed that the new complex will likely feature both indoor and outdoor sports facilities, including pickleball courts, volleyball courts, and possibly softball and baseball fields.
“Pickleball is huge right now on the Gulf Coast,” (Robert Collins),
noting that the complex would meet the growing demand for such recreational spaces in the area.
Next Steps for Development
While the county has purchased the land, the full cost of transforming it into recreational pickleball facilities is still being evaluated. The exact plans will be finalized after the new year. County officials aim to move forward with development as soon as possible.
Community Impact
The new sports complex is expected to benefit residents by providing more recreational options and promoting physical activity. The decision to acquire the land reflects the county’s commitment to improving public spaces and providing amenities for the community.
