Tennis Buddies Winter Pickleball Camp Brings Joy to Individuals with Developmental Disabilities

The Sierra Junior Tennis Association has launched the “Tennis Buddies Winter Pickleball Camp” to introduce people with developmental disabilities to pickleball. The camp will take place from December 30 to January 3 at 3rd Shot Pickleball in Reno, offering a supportive space to learn the game.

The four-day camp will run daily from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 6895 Sierra Center Parkway, Unit A, and costs $20 for all sessions. Participants, along with their parents or caregivers, can volunteer to join the camp, making it a shared learning experience.

Camp Details and Objectives

The Tennis Buddies camp aims to create a fun and safe setting for people with developmental disabilities. The program is designed to help participants learn pickleball or improve their skills while staying active.

To ensure safety and inclusivity, participants must meet specific requirements, such as the ability to walk unaided, sidestep, and follow simple directions. Safety glasses will be provided and are mandatory for everyone on the court.

An Inclusive Approach

The camp also encourages parents and caregivers to actively participate alongside the athletes. This approach not only fosters bonding but also helps in understanding the game better, contributing to an inclusive environment.

Looking Ahead

The Tennis Buddies Winter Pickleball Camp reflects efforts to make sports more inclusive and accessible. By creating a supportive environment, the camp promotes personal growth and community involvement.

With its low-cost entry and family-oriented format, the camp is expected to attract participants eager to engage in a meaningful and active way this winter.
