Pickleball Takes Center Stage in Maricopa: The City of Maricopa has disclosed conceptual renderings for a new sports fieldhouse, set to replace the Maricopa Police Department Substation. The fieldhouse will be located on the southeast corner of Bowlin Road and Greythorn Drive, near the Copper Sky Recreational Complex. This facility aims to enhance the local pickleball scene and provide more options for sports enthusiasts.
Transforming the Police Substation
This proposed fieldhouse comes shortly after the Maricopa Police Department opened its new, larger station at the City Center. Quinn Konold, a city spokesperson, shared that the current facility will be repurposed for administrative and storage space while a new building will be constructed adjacent to it.
“This project is currently in the design phase. While the existing facility will be repurposed for administrative and storage space, the project includes the construction of a new building connected to the existing one.” – (Quinn Konold)
Designed for Pickleball and More
The renderings illustrate a new building that will replace the current impound lot located at the substation’s backside, along M.L.K. Jr. Boulevard. If constructed, this building would accommodate a variety of indoor activities, including pickleball, which has seen a surge in popularity.

This inclusive design highlights the city’s commitment to promoting pickleball as a key sport in the community.
Aesthetic and Structural Details
The proposed fieldhouse will be a pre-engineered metal building featuring attractive desert color tones and patterns, according to city officials. It will be designed and constructed by a collaboration of Chasse Building Team, BWS Architects, and Studio8.
Chasse Building Team is known for creating healthcare facilities, apartment buildings, and schools, including Desert Sunrise High School in Maricopa.
Future Considerations
Konold emphasized that the current renderings and plans are conceptual and subject to change. As the project moves forward, community members will likely have the opportunity to provide input, ensuring the fieldhouse meets local needs.
The new sports facility promises to enhance recreational options for Maricopa residents and foster a vibrant community around sports, especially pickleball, which continues to grow in popularity.
