APP and American Cancer Society Team Up—Here’s How Pickleball Players Can Help!

APP and American Cancer Society Team Up: The Association of Pickleball Players (APP) is teaming up with the American Cancer Society for the APP National Pickleball Challenge, a nationwide fundraiser dedicated to cancer research, patient support, and advocacy. Taking place throughout April, National Pickleball Month, the initiative encourages players to stay active while making a meaningful impact in the fight against cancer.

How the Challenge Works

The APP National Pickleball Challenge is open to all skill levels, from competitive athletes to recreational players. Participants commit to playing pickleball ten times during April, logging their active minutes to compete on a national leaderboard.

Here’s how players can get involved:

  1. Sign Up – Registration is open now on JustGiving.
  2. Fundraise for the Cause – Participants aim to raise at least $25, with proceeds going directly to the American Cancer Society.
    • Those who reach the $25 milestone will receive a free “Strength & Hope” t-shirt.
    • The top ten fundraisers will receive a revolutionary OWL Sport paddle from the APP.
  3. Track Your Activity – Beginning April 1, players log their pickleball minutes using the Stridekick mobile app or manually. The leaderboard will showcase the most active participants.
  4. Spread Awareness – Players are encouraged to share their progress on social media, inspiring others to join and donate.

The challenge allows all pickleball-related activities to count, from competitive matches and casual games with friends to cardio-based training or even just practicing ball control.

Pickleball for a Cause

The initiative emphasizes the health benefits of pickleball, promoting physical activity as a way to reduce cancer risk while simultaneously raising funds for those facing the disease.

“We are excited to work with the American Cancer Society to continue to use pickleball for good,” said Shannon Dan, APP EVP of Strategy and Growth.

“By participating in this challenge, you can play the sport you love, reduce your personal cancer risk by staying active, and support people facing cancer. It’s such a fun, easy way to make a difference!” – (Shannon Dan)

100% of Proceeds Support Cancer Patients

Every dollar raised will directly benefit the American Cancer Society, funding:

  • Cancer research breakthroughs.
  • Direct patient assistance in more than 20,000 communities.
  • Advocacy efforts to improve cancer care access.

The APP’s Commitment to Growing Pickleball

The APP is a leader in professional and amateur pickleball, offering players of all levels the opportunity to compete in high-profile tournaments. Since its founding in 2019, the APP has become the only pro and amateur tour fully sanctioned by USA Pickleball, with events broadcast on CBS Sports and ESPN.

The APP Tour’s 2025 season will feature a full slate of competitions, youth development programs, and charitable initiatives, further expanding the reach of pickleball. In January 2025, the APP opened its official headquarters and player development center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, while its corporate offices remain in Chicago.
