Mircea Morariu and Jose Derisi Triumph in APP Sacramento Open Men’s Doubles, Winning First Gold of 2025 Season!

Mircea Morariu and Jose Derisi claimed their first gold medal of the 2025 season by winning the men’s doubles title at the APP $100K Sacramento Open. The duo defeated Patrick Cote and Tao Liang Thongvanh in straight games, 12-10 and 11-7, despite five rain delays and cold conditions.

A Long-Awaited Victory for Morariu and Derisi

After reaching the gold medal match in previous events, including APP Fort Lauderdale and Daytona Beach, Morariu and Derisi finally secured a victory in Sacramento.

Their hard-fought win was especially meaningful after coming so close in earlier tournaments. Morariu and Derisi’s teamwork, focus, and patience helped them adapt to challenging weather conditions.

Victory Brings Rewards

With their win, Morariu and Derisi earned a $3,000 prize and 600 ranking points. The APP $100K Sacramento Open is a Tier II event on the APP/AARP Champions Tour (50+), making their victory significant for the men’s doubles team.

Although the bronze medal match was canceled due to rain, the prize money and ranking points for third place were evenly split. The other top finishers were:

  • Silver (2nd): Tao Liang Thongvanh and Patrick Cote – $1,500
  • Bronze (3rd): Christopher Bohnert and Thomas Robertson – $850 (split)
  • Bronze (3rd): Juan Satuito and Bryan Enerhardt – $850 (split)
  • 5th: Scott Moore and Susan Dawson – $500
  • 6th: Morgan Shepherd and Todd Murphy – $500

The APP Tour moves to the APP $150K Fort Lauderdale Open from April 1-6. After their win in Sacramento, Morariu and Derisi are ready to continue their success in the upcoming event.
